July 12, 2021: The Assam Legislative Assembly Budget Session will begin today. The 15 day session will continue till August 13. Finance Minister Ajanta Neog will place the budget. This will be the first State Budget of the 15th Assam Legislative Assembly and the first budget session of the newly formed Assam government headed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The government will be introducing many bills including the Assam Cattle Preservation Bill 2021, during the Budget session.

This year, the Assembly Secretariat has digitalized all passes to the Assembly. Furthermore, the Assembly will be paperless and mobile phones will be prohibited during the Session. All getting access to the Assembly has to follow the COVID-appropriate behaviour.

For the first time, Assam legislators will also be able to speak in Bodo language during the state Assembly proceedings.

The Bills which will be introduced during this year’s Session are-

1.  The Assam Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2021

2. The Assam Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2021

3.  The Assam Taxation (on Specified Lands) (Amendment) Bill, 2021

4.  The Assam Professions, Trades, Calling and Employments Taxation (Amendment) Bill, 2021

5. The Assam Electricity Duty (Amendment) Bill, 2021

6.  The Assam Agricultural Income Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2021

7. The Assam Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Bill (Amendment) Bill, 2021

8.  The Assam Women's University (Amendment) Bill, 2021

9. The Majuli University of Culture (Amendment) Bill, 2021

10. The Bodoland University (Amendment) Bill, 2021

11. The Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankardeva Viswavidyalaya (Amendment) Bill, 2021

12. The Bengal, Agra and Assam Civil Courts (Assam Amendment) Bill, 2021, and

13. The Assam Municipal (Amendment) Bill, 2021.
