March 4, 2025: 41 year old wrestler Sushil kumar was granted bail today who was in jail for more than three years in connection with the murder case of an young wrestler Sagar Dhankar, a former junior national wrestling champion.
Dhankar was beaten to death on May 4, 2021 in a clash involving two groups. Sushil kumar’s name came into limelight when a video of the incident featuring Kumar came into surface. A lookout notice was issued for him as he was on the run. Kumar was arrested on May 23.
Sushil Kumar and his group used hockey sticks, danda etc to attack Dhankar and his friends. While Sagar Dhankar lost his life, two of his friends got injured. According to sources, the main gate of the stadium was locked so as to no one can enter from outside.
On July 22, 2024 the trial court refused to grant bail to Kumar. Murder charges were framed against Kumar and 17 others in October 2024.
The court also framed charges under IPC sections 323, 120 B, 142, 148 & 149 against Kumar & his group.
On Tuesday, March 4, Justice Sanjeev Narula passed the order of Sushil Kumar’s bail on a bail bond of Rs. 50,000 and two sureties of like amount.
The details of the order is yet to be received.
