July 3, 2021: Bollywood Lyricist Javed Akhtar, who had earlier filed a criminal defamation complaint against actor Kangana Ranaut over her remarks about her in a TV interview, has now filed an intervention application in the Bombay High Court after the actress got her passport renewed.
Akhtar in his application claimed that Kangana failed to disclose certain facts in her petition before the court seeking speedy renewal of her passport.
Last month, Kangana also filed an interim application, seeking that the regional passport authority be directed to renew her passport to enable her to travel to Budapest, Hungary for a film shoot.
Ranaut’s passport renewal process was earlier rejected on grounds of FIRs (First Information Report) against her; however, her lawyer claimed that there was no criminal case arising out of it.
Javed Akhtar's application, filed through advocate Jay Bharadwaj, seeks intervention to point out to the Court that the statement made by Kangana was false, misleading and was allegedly made with an intention to obtain a favourable order. His application states that the actress should have brought the factual position before the Court, especially when she was in complete knowledge of the factum of pendency of the criminal case filed by him against her.
Based on this statement, the passport authority assured the Court that Kangana's passport renewal application will be considered as expeditiously as possible.
Javed Akhtar also filed an intervention application, seeking to take part in the proceedings of a writ petition filed by Ranaut challenging the First Information Report (FIR) filed against her for allegedly infringing the copyright of the book Didda: Warrior Queen of Kashmir.
