Dentists say we should brush our teeth twice a day for at least two minutes each time. Do not rush through your brushing. Listen to music, walk around but you have to brush for 2 minutes. Set the timer on your phone.
2. Choose the Right Brush
Picking the right kind of brush is also important. Choose a brush with soft bristles. The bristles should bend to get right under the gum. Its the bristles that remove the bacteria and loosen plaque from your teeth and gums. Plaque can cause gum disease and lead to tooth decay. Soft bristles clean very effectively. In fact, hard bristles can wear down your tooth structure, dentists warn.
3. Do Not Brush Your Teeth Hard.
What you need to do is massage your teeth. Brushing them hard like as if you are scrubbing them would harm your teeth and gum and can cause damage.
4. Do Not Hold on to Your Old Brush for Too Long
Change your brush when the colour or shape of the bristles of your brush changes. It loses its powers when the bristles become frayed. So change it at least every 3 to 4 months. Keep your brush in the open to keep mold or bacteria from growing on it when it’s wet. Using a brush cap might not be a great idea.
5. Use Circular Motion
Start brushing from the gum, and go up and down in little circular motions. Do not forget the gum line. Bacteria often breeds where your tooth meets your gum. Do not miss that area.
6. Remember the tongue-side
Do not forget to turn your brush around and clean the inside or the backside of your teeth. People usually tend to brush only the outside of their teeth, the part people can see. But cleaning the inside of the teeth is also equally important.
