May 3 2022: Mrigen Sarania has been appointed the Mayor of Guwahati Municipal Corporation and Smita Rai is the Deputy Mayor. This was announced by Assam BJP President Bhabesh Kalita on Tuesday.
This will be a second term for Sarania as Mayor, GMC. He had served the first term in 2016.
Sarania had won from Ward 29 and Smita Rai won unopposed from Ward 22.
Both are from BJP.
The elections for GMC was held on April 22 and the results were declared on April 24. BJP won 58 of the 60 wards. AAP and AJP won 2 Wards.
