November 30, 2021: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed grief over the killing of Animesh Bhuyan, 23 by a mob of over 50 people on Monday. The Chief Minister has directed Special DGP GP Singh to investigate the case. The CM wants the chargesheet to be filed in a month and justice delivered through a fasttrack court.
The state government has offered Rs 5 lakh as compensation to the family of Animesh. Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu visited the home of Animesh and offered condolences on behalf of the CM and his government.
Animesh was the Education secretary of AASU Brahmaputra Anchal (Golaghat Unit). He along with two others had visited Jorhat for some official work on Monday. They were brutally attacked by a large mob while they were trying to help people injured in an accident. The mob mistook them to be the people involved in the accident.
The trio was seriously injured and was rushed to Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH) where Animesh was declared dead on arrival.
So far police has arrested 13 people including the main accused.
