April 21, 2022: Voting for 57 of the 60 wards of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation will be held tomorrow, April 22 and counting of votes will take place on April 24. As many as 80 all women polling stations have been set up.
There are 208 candidates in the fray. Of the 60 wards, 50% are reserved for women candidates.
BJP candidates have won from three wards – Wards 5,6 and 22, unopposed.
There are a total of 7, 96, 829 voters out of which 3, 96,891 are male voters and 3, 99, 911 are female voters. The number of transgender voters are 27. As many as 789 polling stations are being set up.
The Assam government has declared public holiday on April 22 within the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) area in view of the polling on that day.
The Kamrup Metropolitan District Administration has declared Dry Days till 4.30 PM of April 22 due to upcoming Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) elections. Voting will take place on April 22. Counting of votes will take place on April 24. This day too has been declared Dry Day.
