July 3, 2021: Assam Environment and Forest Minister, Parimal Suklabaidya has formally inaugurated the Dihing Patkai National Park, the state's seventh national park on Saturday.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had declared Dihing Patkai as a National Park on June 5 – the World Environment Day- and the official process was completed with the publication of the notification on June 15.
The two national parks, including Raimona National Park in the Bodoland Territorial Region, have come up within the first month of the second BJP government in the state.
The Dihing Patkai National Park located in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts; the 111.19 sq km Dehing Patkai was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 2004.
It is famous around the world for its rainforest, which is one of the few remaining tracts of Assam Valley Tropical Wet Evergreen Forests. It is home to 47 mammal, 47 reptile, and 310 butterfly species. Elephants, hoolock gibbons, golden cats, clouded leopards, and other species also live in the park.
