July 5, 2022: Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Superintendent Dr Abhijit Sarma has expressed concern in the spurt in the number of COVID cases in Assam and said it is alarming. Assam on Monday reported 161 COVID cases with Kamrup Metro leading the tally with 90 cases.
The Superintendent has asked everyone to follow COVID protocol and stay away from crowds and take the third dose of the COVID vaccine. Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, Dr Sarma said that flu fever has been found to be the most common symptom among all those who have tested positive for COVID.
Dr Sarma said that the region’s premier medical centre is prepared to address any COVID situation. The hospital has 589 beds and 100 ICU beds. Furthermore, there are 38 ICU beds at Kalapahar hospital and another 300 ICU beds at the Sarusajai facility. Five COVID positive patients are undergoing treatment at GMCH.
