July 6, 2021: Amid rising Covid numbers in certain districts of Assam, the state government on Tuesday announced a revised SOP and declared 7 districts - Jorhat, Sonitpur, North Lakhimpur, Goalpara, Golaghat, Biswanath, Morigaon as total containment zones. Only shops with essentials have been allowed to be open till 5PM, state health minister Keshab Mahanta said announcing the new SOP that would come into effect from July 7 for a week.
State government would provide food items and other essentials worth Rs 2000 per family in micro containment zones. The district administration has been asked to ensure 100% testing and 100% vaccination in micro containment zones and other areas.
Tea gardens and business establishments would be open in the above mentioned seven districts. The authorities would have to follow complete COVID protocol.
Curfew timings for Dhubri, Kamrup (Metro), South Salmara, Majuli, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Udalguri, West Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Charaideo, Hailakandi would be from 5 PM to 5 AM. Shops, markets, business establishments have to shut by 4 PM.
For Sibsagar, Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Baksa, Bajali, Kamrup (Rural), Nagaon, Hojai, Darrang, Cachar, Karbi Anglong, Nalbari, Tinsukia, Dhemaji, Karimganj, the curfew timing would be from 2 PM to 5 AM. Shops, markets, business establishments have to shut by 1PM.
Restrictions on inter-state movement continues to be in place. The district administration and the state health department would keep a close watch on peoples’ movement and behaviour in Sibsagar, Dibrugarh and Guwahati as these places
Highlighting the fact that over 36,000 children below 18 years have tested positive for Covid across Assam, health minister Mahanta said that there are 2,890 active cases. Till June 30, thirty eight deaths have been reported. He urged all to take special care of children and keep them safe.
