Aug 6, 2020: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday ordered a probe into Wednesday's incident in Goruduba under Dhekiajuli of Sonitpur district.



The CM has asked DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta to inquire into the entire incident. He also appealed to the people of all communities in Sonitpur district to maintain peace and harmony.



Meanwhile, ADGP GP Singh on Thursday visited the affected area and took stock of the situation.



Singh also reviewed the situation with the SP and other officers. He informed that 12 persons were injured in the case and 9 vehicles were burnt.



SP Mugdhajyoti Mahanta said that the organisers of the rally did not take any prior permission for taking out the rally.



So far, 4 cases have been registered and two persons were arrested for links with the incident.

Meanwhile, the Viswa Hindu Parishad has clarified that the rally was not taken out by the Bajrang Dal as it is published in media. It however demanded that the culprits behind the incident must be taken to task.



Indefinite curfew has been imposed in areas under Thelamora and Dhekiajuli police stations since Wednesday after a rally in support of Ram Temple was attacked at Goruduba area under Thelamora Police Station. Several vehicles and bikes were torched by the attackers.



Police had to resort to blank fire to disperse the crowd.



Some miscreants also attacked the convoy of the deputy commissioner on Wednesday night when he went there to take stock of the situation.
