July 2, 2020: Coronavirus cases in India have crossed the six lakh mark after the addition of new positive cases from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Delhi in the last 24 hours. The total is now 6,00,032 - roughly 50,000 cases behind Russia, which is the third worst sufferer country from coronavirus.




Russia is preceded by Brazil, which has more than 14 lakh cases and the US, which has over 26 lakh cases. Brazil topped 60,000 deaths from the novel coronavirus after recording more than 1,000 fatalities over the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said.




India registered 18,653 coronavirus cases and 507 deaths on Wednesday, pushing the total number of infections to 5,85,493, including 17,400 deaths.




Maharashtra’s coronavirus case tally rose to 1,80,298 on Wednesday with addition of 5,537 new patients while the death toll mounted by 198 to 8,053.




Around 90% of total infections in India are from ten states - Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Karnataka.
