July 6, 2020: Amid the raging controversy over alleged clearance for coal mining in the locality of the Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary, the Assam Government on Monday decided to upgrade the Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary into a 'National Park' status.



The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today, who held a discussions with the senior officials of the state department.



Informing this Sonowal tweeted, “Our Govt has decided to upgrade the Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam, which is home to a vast variety of flora and fauna, to a National Park. In a meeting with senior officials in Guwahati today, I have directed them to take necessary steps in this regard,”
