July 19, 2020: The Indian Council of Medical Research will study the effectiveness of the BCG vaccines in fighting against the deadly coronavirus.

As per reports, the study will evaluate if the vaccine can really check the mortality rate among the COVID-19 patients.

It was claimed earlier that those who were administered the BCG vaccine are at a lower risk of getting infected by the COVID-19 virus.

Initially, the study could include COVID hotspots like Maharashtra, Delhi, and Rajasthan etc.

In India, the vaccine is being administered since 1940’s.

Similar studies are going on in many other countries too where the vaccine is administered.

If any correlation is found between the two, it can go a long way in treating the deadly virus which has claimed nearly 6 lakhs lives worldwide.

The death rate has been seen high in countries where the BCG vaccination was discontinued.
