July 22, 2020: At least 45 members, including 36 first-timers, took the oath on Wednesday administered by the Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu while following physical distancing norms.



Assam’s Bhubaneswar Kalita from BJP and Biswajit Daimary from BPF took the oath on July 21st, 2020.



Senior journalist Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, who contested the elections as an independent candidate with the support from Congress and AIUDF, also won uncontested. He will take the oath of the office at the session of the house.



In total, 61 members have been elected to the house of which 43 are first-timers.



Twelve sitting Rajya Sabha members who have been re-elected, including Sharad Pawar, Harivansh, Ramdas Athawale, Digvijay Singh, Bhubaneswar Kalita, Prem Chand Gupta and Biswajit Daimary, also took oath.



BJP leader Jyotiraditya Scindia and Congress' Mallikarjun Kharge are among the first-time members of the House who took oath.



Those members who could not take oath on Wednesday will do so during the ensuing Monsoon Session.



The new members, including three women, took oath of office in Telugu, Bodo, Kannada, Manipuri, Marathi, Oriya, Tamil, Bengali, Hindi and English.



Among the members who took oath were 19 BJP MPs, including Jyotiraditya Scindia and Sumer Singh Solanki from Madhya Pradesh; Nabam Rebia from Arunachal Pradesh; Bhubaneswar Kalita and Biswajit Daimary from Assam; Vivek Thakur from Bihar; Abhay Bharadwaj, Ramilaben Bara and Narhari Amin from Gujarat; Ram Chander Jangra from Haryana; Indu Goswami from Himachal Pradesh; Deepak Prakash from Jharkhand; Ashok Gasti and Iranna Kadadi from Karnataka; Udayanraje Bhosale and Bhagwat Karad from Maharashtra; Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba from Manipur; K Vanlalvena from Mizoram; and Rajendra Gehlot from Rajasthan.
