July 16, 2020: In a recent development, the government of Meghalaya has decided to close all its border points from 24th to 31st July, 2020 along with banning wedding receptions in two districts namely East Khasi Hills District & Ri Bhoi District to keep a check on the spread of coronavirus. 
Issuing an order, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the state government has decided to close all entry points at Byrnihat, Ratacherra, Bajengdoba, Tikrikilla, Mirjumla and Hallidayganj from July 24 to 31.
The entry points which will remain shut include Byrnihat, Ratacherra, Bajengdoba, Tikrikilla, Mirjumla and Hallidayganj.
Other than emergency services, carrying of essential commodities and allowing transit movement of Assam vehicles, no other vehicular movement would be allowed during the period.
The government will also be shifting the Byrnihat entry point from its current location to another spot due to objections from the Assam government as the present entry point was affecting those who were travelling to Upper Assam.
The decision came a day after Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the lockdown imposed in the Meghalaya capital will not be extended further, as contact-tracing in identified clusters has been completed. 
The lockdown was imposed in the Shillong agglomeration from 6 am on Monday till 6 am on Wednesday.
“With effect from today, we have decided to prohibit the holding of wedding receptions whether in private residences or other locations within the East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi districts. This applies for other receptions as well,” said Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday .However, he said that solemnisation of marriages can take place with strict adherence to protocols and safety measures.
