Mumbai on Heavy Rain Alert after Rainfall Disrupts Normal Life

June 8, 2018: Heavy rain warning from the meteorological department has been issued for Mumbai and other western coastal region from 9th June to 11th July.

The monsoonal rains have already affected areas in Mumbai as some areas were submerged, trains were delayed and at least three flights including one jet airways flight from London had to be diverted.

The visibility of the city has been reduced to 500 m due to low dense clouds. The fishermen were warned against going too far out into the sea. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has taken a number of precautionary measures; schools will be open throughout providing for food and shelter for those in need.Â

Heavy rain has also been forecast for coastal Karnataka, Goa and south Maharashtra. Residents are asked to stay indoors and avoid outdoor activities for the next couple of days.
