Jogdal Murder: 2 police officers arrested by CID

December 7, 2017: Jogdal mass murder incident’s two prime accused including the then officer-in-charge of the Sonapur police station and the first investigating officer of the case are arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) after around 8 years.

Pranab Kumar Deka, the then officer-in-charge of Sonapur Police Station has been arrested with Abdul Matif Choudhury, the then investigating officer of the local police station, Sonapur.
In 2009, Harakanta Doloi and five other of his family members were killed in cold blood by miscreants in Jogdal area under Sonapur police station. The case was initially investigated by the Sonapur Police, but later handed over to the CID for investigation.
CID officials informed that both are charged with destroying the evidence with a motive to shield the culprits. It was allegedly at the instance of Deka, the then officer-in-charge, the scene of the murder, house was burnt down by some unidentified persons, including a few locals.
The then Deputy director of Forensic Science Laboratory had also questioned by the CID on similar charges. The then Congress Minister Akon Bora’s name was also included in the mass murder case.
The case (CID police station case number 18/2012) has been registered under Sec 120(B), 436, and 201 of the Indian Penal Code.
The CID had arrested one of the accused Arjun Bordoloi but later he was also found dead under mysterious condition.
