The World’s only working oldest steam engine “EIR-21” built in 1855 and which was withdrawn from service in the year 1909 went for a “Heritage Run” on Sunday between Egmore and Kodambakkam railway stations in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

This was the sixth heritage run for this steam engine, the first run which took place on August 15, 2010.

The steam engine had been kept as an exhibit at the Jamalpur Locomotive Workshop and then at the Howrah station in West Bengal after it was withdrawn from service in 1909.

Higher officials of the Southern Railway, including the General Manager, Vashishta Johri, were present during the heritage run of the locomotive.
