August 16, 2017: Around 400 people were killed and more than thousands left homeless by a mudslides, flood in S. Leone, South Africa. A mountainside collapsed on the outskirts of the capital Freetown on Monday morning, burying dozens of homes as people slept in one Africa’s deadliest mudslides in decades.

Rescue workers have recovered around 400 dead bodies so far in the mountain of Regent and around 600 people are still reported as missing. S. Leone Red Cross Society spokesman Abu Bakarr Tarawallie said that they had estimated at least 3000 people are homeless. They shelter, medical assistance and food. He also said that they are also fearful of outbreaks of diseases such as cholera and tyhoid.
President Koroma said in a television address on Monday evening that rescue centres had been set up around the capital to register and assist victims. More than 60 volunteers from the Sierra Leone Red Cross are supporting the government with search and rescue operations, which are still under way, and are helping transport the injured to hospital and bring those who have died to the mortuary.
Many of the 3,000 people left homeless spent Monday night in the neighbouring homes that had survived the tragedy. Others were taken to a nearby police station for shelter.
