July 08, 2020: Following the brutal rape and murder of a female teacher in Kalaigaon, locals along with various organisations staged protest and blocked the road - connecting Udalguri to Bhootia Chang - demanding arrest of the accused involved.

The said abhorrent incident took place in Kalaigaon on Tuesday where the victim was brutally raped and murdered along with her face being disfigured beyond recognition with acid.

The victim had been missing since Monday morning but later on Tuesday her dead body was found lying inside a class room in UN Academy, Kalaigaon.

Tension erupted in the region after the police failed to arrest the accused even after 24 hours had passed since the body was recovered.

It may be stated that CM Sarbananda Sonowal has directed Assam Police, CID and forensic experts to assist the Udalguri Police in investigation of the said incident.

Taking to Twitter Assam Police DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta informed, “As directed by Hon' CM Sh @sarbanandsonwal, @AssamCidofficers & forensic experts dispatched to assist @udalguripolice in C No 65/20; relating to the dead body of a lady that was found in UN Academy, Kalaigaon.
No stone will be left unturned to bring the culprits to book”.
