Arunachal Pradesh Finance, Planning and PWD Minister Chowna Mein along with Assam’s Parliamentary secretary Bolin Chetia and a team of officials made a joint inspection of flood-affected areas of the district yesterday, officials said today. The joint team visited the dykes and embankments as well as relief camps on both sides of inter-state border and expressed satisfaction at the steps taken by agencies including district administration and water resources department officials to control the flood. While Mein promised to take up the matter with Chief Minister Nabam Tuki to provide funds after the loss was assessed and report submitted by district administration, the Assam MLA appealed to the people residing in border areas to maintain peace and harmony since they depend on each other. Mein, accompanied by his legislator wife Nang Sati Mein, visited the flood-hit areas in Namsai sub-division earlier in th e day and assured flood-hit people of assistance for their rehabilitation. Hundreds of families were rendered homeless in the recent spate of flood at Namsai, Lekang and Chongkham circles of the worst affected district and subsequently, the victims were given refuge at Dharmpur relief camp and other relief camps at Mahadevpur and Namsai areas.
