July 31, 2020: No registration of Bharat Standard IV vehicles will be allowed till the Supreme Court decides on their sale during lockdown period.

The Supreme Court on Friday expressed displeasure on the sale of large number of vehicles in March during lockdown. Saying an unusual number of BS-IV vehicles were sold during the lockdown, it barred registration of BS-IV vehicles till further orders. The matter to be heard on August 13.

The motor dealers' association had said that there are some countries where sale of BS-IV compliant vehicles were still allowed. The Court refused to accept the argument and said that the manufacturers were well aware of the deadline. The Apex Court had in March relaxed the deadline on the ban of the sale of BS-IV vehicles. However, the order was recalled after the dealers continued to sell beyond the relaxed limit.
