June 29, 2020: The Maharashtra government on Monday has extended the lockdown till July 31 amid a steady growth in the COVID-19 numbers in the state.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday had indicated that the ongoing lockdown restrictions will continue beyond June 30.

The Mumbai Police had also announced a series of measures under the #MissionBeginAgain by appealing to people to strictly adhere to the guidelines.

The government said that the movement for non-essential activities must be restricted within the neighbourhoods.

The development comes as the COVID-19 cases in the state for the third consecutive day jumped sharply from Saturday’s highest of 5,318 to 5,493 on Sunday while deaths in Pune Division crossed 1,000.
