June 29, 2020: In a major success in the anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir, security forces killed three terrorists, including a commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen, in an encounter in Anantnag district on Monday morning.

Masood, a so-called commander of terrorist group Hizbul Mujahideen, was wanted in a rape case in Doda and had joined the Hizbul Mujahideen when he was on the run, the Kashmir police said. He had shifted his area of operation to Kashmir.

Masood was the last surviving terrorist from the Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir police Chief said.

J&K police Chief Dilbag Singh counted Masood’s elimination as a huge win for the security forces.

“Doda district in Jammu Zone becomes totally militancy free once again as Masood was a last surviving terrorist of the Doda District,” Dilbag Singh said.

Apart from Hizbul Mujahideen commander Masood Ahmed Bhat, two terrorists were also eliminated in the operation in Khulchohar area of the south Kashmir district.

Doda, a district in eastern Jammu region that borders south Kashmir’s Anantnag, has been a key area of focus for security forces. With Masood's death, the entire Doda district in Jammu region has become totally free of terrorists as he was one of the last surviving terrorists there, J&K police Chief Dilbag Singh said.
