July 4, 2020: India recorded its highest single-day spike in the number of coronavirus cases in last 24 hours with 22,771 new cases on Friday, taking the total to 6,48,315 infections, according to the  Union Health Ministry.



As per reports, there are 2,35,433 active cases in the country while 3,94,227 have recovered so far. The death toll rose to 18,655 with 442 new deaths in last 24 hours.



Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Telangana and Karnataka being the major contributors to the single day rise.

Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-hit state with over 1,92,990 infections. The death count due to the pandemic rose to 8,376 after 198 new deaths reported on Friday.



Tamil Nadu on Friday crossed the grim milestone of one lakh COVID-19 cases with the state reporting 4,329 fresh infections and 64 fatalities, pushing the death toll to 1,385.



Delhi recorded 2,520 fresh coronavirus cases on Friday, taking the tally to over 94,000, while the death toll from the disease mounted to 2,923.
