August 14, 2020: On Friday, India has reported 64,553 fresh COVID-19 infections in the past 24 hours. With 1,007 more deaths reported in the last 24 hours across the country, the COVID-19 death toll in India has jumped to 48,040.



With this, India’s total COVID-19 count rises to 24,61,191 which includes 6,61,595 active cases and 17,51,556 patients who have been cured from the disease or discharged from hospitals, Ministry of Health stated on Friday.





On the other hand, COVID-19 testing continues to grow and 8,48,728 samples were tested on August 13 which is the highest in a single day so far.



India’s recovery rate at present is over 70 percent while the death rate stands at 1.95 percent, among the lowest across the globe.





Over 2.76 crore samples have been tested so far, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). On Wednesday, the Union Health Ministry said that the week-wise average daily tests conducted saw a sharp increase from around 2.3 lakh in the first week of July 2020 to more than 6.3 lakh in the current week.





It may be added that the country, with the world's biggest case load behind the United States and Brazil, has now reported a jump of 50,000 cases or more each day for 16 straight days.
