July 5, 2020: India registered its highest single day spike of coronavirus cases with 24,850 new cases in last 24 hours, taking the total to 6,73,165 infections, according to the  Union Health Ministry.



As per reports, India recorded 2,44,814 active cases while 4,09,083 cases have recovered so far. The death toll rose to 19,268 with 613 new deaths in last 24 hours.



Maharashtra, the worst-hit state, has crossed the two lakh-marks with 7,074 new cases on Saturday. The state has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in India, followed by Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Gujarat.



Delhi recorded 2,505 fresh coronavirus cases on Saturday, taking the tally in the city to over 97,000, while the death count from the disease mounted to 3,004.



Tamil Nadu has reported 1,07,001 cases and 1,450 deaths.



India is now roughly 800 cases behind Russia, which is the third worst-hit nation from coronavirus.
