October 23, 2020: A Mumbai based lawyer on Thursday filed a criminal complaint against actor Kangana Ranaut for allegedly posting a “malicious” tweet against the judiciary after a local court ordered the registration of an FIR against her.

The Bollywood actor had “no respect for varied communities of India, law of the land and authorised government bodies” and even made fun of the judiciary, it stated.

Following the Bandra court’s order to the police to register a First Information Report against her, Ranaut posted “malicious and defamatory” tweets against the judiciary, terming it as “Papu Sena”, the complaint stated.

The complainant, a Mumbai based lawyer, advocate Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh, has accused Ranaut of attacking not just the Maharashtra Police, and government in connection with the death case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, but of also "promoting enmity amongst our country people for her political gain".

The complaint includes several of Ranaut's tweets in which she had targeted politicians, Maharashtra Police and personalities from the Bollywood film industry.

"She has stooped even low by misusing her fanbase, fame, power, influence through her social media accounts and has been creating hatred, enmity amongst authorised legally constituted government bodies and also prevailing religions in India through her tweets/statements with an aim and intent to garner cheap publicity, personal gains and benefit by taking undue advantage of the grave situations prevailing in India," the complaint read.

The matter will be heard in the Andheri court on November 10.

Last week, the Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate’s court had ordered the police to investigate a complaint filed by Munawwar Ali Sayyed, a Bollywood casting director and fitness trainer, which referred to Ranaut’s and her sister Rangoli Chandel’s tweets and other statements.

On the direction of the court, the Bandra police registered an FIR against Ranaut and her sister under IPC sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, etc), 295A (deliberate acts hurting religious sentiments) and 124-A (sedition).

The complainant also said that he had filed a police complaint on September 4, 2020, at Andheri police station requesting to register an FIR against the actor for her "several illicit tweets", and had even given his statement to the police but pointed out that "no action has been taken against the accused despite the offences being serious in nature".

Khan has urged the court to take cognizance of the issue and take necessary action against Ranaut for offences which according to him fall under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and any other acts which can be levied.

The police have already summoned Ranaut and her sister for questioning next week after a case was registered against them on the Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate’s order on another complaint.
