October 22, 2020: Good news for Guwahati Press Club members. Several prominent schools of Guwahati have come forward to offer free education to the children of the GPC members facing problem in financing children's education.



In an welcome and appreciable move, the Guwahati Press Club has roped in some top city schools to provide education to children of its general members for free.



This is the part of a special initiative titled 'Gift a Child Education' on the occasion of Durga Puja.



As part of the programme, which is believed to be first of its kind initiative by any registered club in India, the Press Club is collaborating with some of the top schools in Guwahati which will provide free education to the children of its General Members and full-time journalists who die in harness or is terminally ill or finding it hard to support his or her child's education owing to some unforeseen circumstances.



The schools that have joined the initiative are Assam Jatiya Bidyalaya, Guru Nanak High School, Guwahati Public School, Happy Montessori High School, International School, Guwahati, Modern English High School, Maria’s Public School, Royal Global school, South Point School, Souvenir Secondary School and St Vivekananda English Academy.

The Guwahati Press Club has expressed sincere gratitude to the management of all the empanelled schools. The GPC is in touch with several other schools in this regard. The initiative will come into being from the next academic year and the date for formal launch of the programme will be announced soon.



Meanwhile, the official website of the Guwahati Press Club, www.gauhatipress.com was launched on Thursday. The website will be developed gradually with some add-on features.



The GPC has also thanked the Pencil Studio for helping with the illustration work of 'Gift a Child Education' programme and Sumato Global Tech for designing its website.
