November 24, 2020: Former Assam chief minister and veteran leader Tarun Gogoi will be accorded a state funeral. The state government has announced to give a befitting last respect to the great leader who had picked up the state from darkness.
His funeral will be held on November 26. However, the venue for this has not been finalised yet.
Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has already announced that a 3-day state mourning would be observed a tribute to the popular leader.
86-year-old Gogoi had breathed his last at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital at 5.34 PM on Monday.
His body was kept at the GMCH for the night. The mortal remains will be taken to his official residence at Dispur from the GMCH. From there, it will be taken to the secretariat premises where the staff of secretariat and assembly will pay respect to the former chief minister.
Then the body will be taken to the Rajiv Bhawan to facilitate the Congress workers to pay respect to their leader. From Rajib Bhawan, the mortal remains will be taken to Srimanta Kalakshetra for the public to pay respect.
The body will be kept at Kalakshetra for 2 days. His last rites will be performed on November 26.
Dr. Abhhijit Sharma, superintendent of GMCH informed that the body has been embalmed to preserve it from decomposing.
