February 12, 2021: Respite for the commuters of Assam from the rising prices of fuel products. The prices of petrol and diesel will come down by Rs 5 from midnight tonight.

Assam finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, while tabling the vote-on-accounts in the assembly, announced this on Friday.

"The government has decided to withdraw the additional Covid-19 cess on petrol and diesel. From midnight today, the prices of petrol and diesel will come down by Rs. 5," said Dr. Sarma.

This will benefit lakhs of customers across the state.

He also announced to withdraw 25% cess on alcohol products.

Sarma tabled the 67-page vote-on-account amid cheers from his cabinet colleagues and treasury bench.
