August 3, 2020: Even as government has lifted most of the restrictions in Guwahati, the restriction on plying of city buses still remains. This has pushed the lives of owners and employees of 700-odd city buses to an uncertainty.

The city bus owners of the city have therefore appealed to the government to lift the restriction on plying of city buses. The city buses have been of the road in Guwahati since late March. Though the restriction was temporarily withdrawn, very few buses were plying.

The over 5-month of restriction has cased immense trouble for the families involved in the city bus operation. On Monday, the bus owners have requested the government to lift the restriction immediately.

"We have not been able to pay our EMIs. Our employees have been suffering. Either allow us or pay compensation to us," said the bus owners in a joint press conference of 4 motor transport unions.

They said they are ready to follow all the safety measures as ordered by the government.
