Aug 8, 2020: Rampant violation of weekend lockdown in Guwahati was reported on Saturday with people coming out in large numbers at several places. The roads too wore a busy look with people moving out freely.

At Lokhra, vegetable vendors sat along the National Highway, violating the government order of total lockdown on Saturday and Sunday. The vendors refused to obey the government orders and even did not wear masks. The customers too thronged the roadside market without any social distancing. At Sixmile too, similar scene was witnessed while at Hatigaon, large numbers of daily wage labourers came out searching for jobs. At Ganeshguri, a heavy rush of vehicles was witnessed. Busy traffic was seen on the GS Road too.

The administration has imposed Total lockdown on every Saturday and Sunday as a measure to contain the Covid19 transmission in the city. So far. over 18,000 cases have been reported in Guwahati.
