April 30,2021: Amid heightened demand for medical oxygen, the Assam government has commissioned an oxygen unit of 0.9 MT at Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital in Guwahati  on Friday.



Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commissioned the oxygen generation plant at MMCH this morning.



Taking to Twitter Sarma said, “ASSAM NOW HAS 11 OXYGEN PLANTS - CAPACITY RAMPS UP TO 68.7 MT/PER DAY



Pleased to be at the commissioning of another #Oxygen unit of 0.9 MT (100 jumbo cylinder day) at MMCH, #Guwahati, this morning.”





The state has installed eleven oxygen plants till now with capacity ramps up to 68.7 mt/per day.



The state’s caseload of active cases at the moment has breached the 2,49,926, according to the bulletin issued by the state National Health Mission (NHM).



On Thursday, the state saw a spike of 3079 new Covid-19 cases, of which 1029 have been detected in the Kamrup (Metropolitan) district. The test positivity percentage also reached 4.58 per cent on April 29.



Meanwhile, Assam recorded its first instance of the Indian double mutant strain of Covid-19 on April 22.
