September 6, 2020: Guwahati residents have paid sum as big as Rs 13 lakh as fine for not wearing face masks. Despite repeated requests by the government, the public have been largely defying the Covid-19 health protocols including wearing of masks.

Commissioner of Guwahati Police MP Gupta on Sunday revealed that so far they have collected Rs 13 lakh from the public for not wearing masks. The amount has been collected from June 30 till date.

"We will continue our drive against the people not wearing masks and not maintaining social distancing. I appeal the people to follow the health protocols or else we will be compelled to take strict action including fine up to Rs 1000 and filing of criminal case."

The city's Covid scene is becoming grimmer everyday as the number of cases has been increasing daily. Despite this, many people are seen without face masks of maintaining social distancing.
