September 13, 2020: Bhaskarjyoti Nath, a sub-inspector of Assam Police posted as  Second OC at the Basistha police station has been suspended with immediate effect. Nath was suspended by the Commissioner of Police following complaint of embezzlement of seized money against him.

The action was taken after a city businessman Ramani Kalita alleged that recently, a police team led by Nath had raided a room of Shubham Lodge owned by Kalita at Beltola. During the raid, Nath had seized Rs. 21 lakh from a locker. But in document, he showed only Rs. 6.65 Lakh as seized money.

Kalita had produced CCTV visuals that captured Nath and other policemen going out from the lodge carrying three bags full of money along with his complaint to the police commissioner. He also said that the money was received from the sale of his flat at Kahilipara and not from gambling as the police officer had mentioned.
