November 6, 2020: Tribal and local products are providing value-added strategic leverage to the Growth and Development of Atma Nirbhar Bharat Small and Medium Enterprises, experts opined in a Webinar organised by Press Information Bureau in Guwahati on Thursday.



Experts from Industry fraternity along with academicians deliberated and discussed about the potential ways for development of local products from industry, entrepreneurial and policy perspective.



Chandan Pachani, official of Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, said that market for Small and Medium Enterprises are having a huge potential and evolving. Dr Nita Sengupta, Officer, Indian Museum said that all the Ministries and Departments have to work in tandem so the result leads to WIN- WIN scenario for the local Small and Medium Enterprises.



Ms Soumita Mukherjee, Entrepreneur said that local toys, terracotta products and wooden and brass/metal objects and other sectors have to be encouraged for local talent development. She said that North East, particularly Assam with Muga Silk, Tea cultivation, Eco-friendly textile and pottery sector has immense potential for marketability. She said that North East’s environment and bio-diversity is add-on for eco-tourism and a huge market for tribal and local products during festivals such as Losar, Bihu, Majuli festival and Wangala, among others.



Susantha Ray, Entrepreneur said that pottery sector and local toy making industry has experienced a huge metamorphosis in recent times. He said that local festivals also generate the same feeling as local products and it is good opportunity for the entrepreneurs to delve in that sector.



Enunciating the provisos in the Constitution of India, Abdur Rehman Mallick, Advocate Delhi High Court delved into the details of the topic and said that the local industries have huge potential as they cater to the local demand and are environment friendly.
