August 16, 2020: The Assam State unit of BJP has rallied behind chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal in the recent controversy over the next chief minister. The party leadership on Sunday has nipped the controversy in the bud.

"Sarbananda Sonowal is the leader of Team BJP in 2021. We all are working as team BJP now. There's no brigade in BJP," said MP and new general secretary of BJP Dilip Saikia. He was reacting to the recent controversy over the comment of minister Piyush Hazarika that Himanta Biswa Sharma is most eligible to be the CM.

MP Pallab Lochan Das too said that the party is supreme and it will decide on the next chief ministerial candidate of the state. He also informed that many leaders of the anti-CAA movement are sending feelers to the party expressing desire to join before the next assembly polls.

Amidst the controversy, minister Himanta Biswa Sharma on Saturday had categorically said that anybody could dream of becoming the CM, but God will choose whom to be made.
