November 9, 2020: Kamrup Metro deputy commissioner Biswajit Pegu has appealed to the public of Guwahati to celebrate Diwali without firecrackers.



“I appeal the public not to make noise and air pollution amidst Covid-19 by bursting high decibel firecrackers. Celebrate the festival of light by lighting diyas,” said Pegu.



He also informed that the administration will be keeping a close vigil on the sale of Chinese crackers and decorative lights.



As the government has not banned sale of firecrackers, the administration will be strict while issuing license for selling of firecrackers. The respective police stations will decide the point of sales, he informed.
