October 15, 2020: The residents of apartments in Guwahati that organise Durga Puja will have to undergo mandatory Covid test before the puja. This is one of the conditions set by the Kamrup-Metro district administration for the puja committees in the city.

The administration on Thursday held meeting with representatives of the puja committees. During the meeting chaired by DC Biswajit Pegu, the administration said that the puja should have to be celebrated in a solemn way with Vedic rituals only.

All Committees will have to take prior permission from the Officers-in-charge of respective police stations. They will not be allowed to construct pandals on public roads. The pandals have to be spacious enough for maintaining social distancing.

At a time, maximum 30 devotees can be present inside the pandal. On the day of Panchami, the priest, assistant priest, puja committee members and volunteers will have to undergo mandatory Covid test. Committees will submit volunteer names while obtaining permission from police.

No prasad to be distributed to devotees while there's no bar on distributing the same at a devotee's house.

All puja pandals will be closed by 10 PM while restaurants will have to shut by 9 PM. No pillion riding for male, no immersion rallies and case under Disaster Mamagement Act against violators of the conditions were some other decisions taken at the meeting.
