August 19, 2020: A day after the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee decided to go for alliance with the AIUDF, several party leaders have expressed their reservations regarding the bonhomie. Several senior leaders have said that not AIUDF alone, the doors are open for all other like-minded parties too.



"We are open to join hands with all anti-BJP forces-be it nationalist party, regional party, intellectuals or the students," said party leader Bhupen Bora.





Stating that Tuesday's meeting was just the preliminary meeting, leader of opposition in the Assam Assembly Debabrata Saikia said that in the coming days, they "will hold talks with all those forces who oppose the BJP and are committed to the overall development of Assam."



Divulging details about Tuesday's meeting, both the leaders informed that it was the first step towards making Grand Alliance in Assam a reality. They also clarified that if such an alliance takes place, the CM will definitely be from the Congress party.





The Congress Core Committee meeting held on Tuesday had formally decided to hold a pre-poll allaince with Badruddin Ajmal-led AIUDF.
