November 5, 2020: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the newly constructed building of Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission at six mile in the city on Wednesday. The Public Works Department has constructed the building with an expenditure of Rs. 23.99 crore.



Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal said, “Electricity plays an important role in the development process. It is an essential part for industrial growth. Further, power consumption is also increasing day by day which leads to rise in demand for electricity”.



The Chief Minister also stressed on the need to improve quality of services by APDCL, AEGCL and APGCL. He also advocated making people stakeholders to generate awareness on power consumption and protecting the transmission infrastructure in the State. The Chief Minister also urged the officials to identify the loopholes in the department and to take corrective measures.



PWD Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in his speech highlighted the steps taken by the State government for strengthening infrastructure of the power department.



While Chairman of AERC Subhas Chandra Das delivered the welcome address, former chairmen of the commission Jayanta Borkakoti and Naba Kumar Das, Chief Information Commissioner HS Das, chairman of APDCL, AEGCL and APGCL Vinod Kumar Pipernesia, several senior government officials, members of the commission and officials of the PWD were present in the programme.
