On Saturday, the first day of the weekend lockdown, people continued to violate the lockdown in the city. At Lokhra, vegetable vendors opened shops along the National Highway. Many of the consumers and sellers were seen without masks and social distancing.





Meanwhile, the offices and banks in Guwahati were opened on Saturday after the government ordered that all offices and banks will continue to operate on Saturdays during the Weekend Lockdown.





Assam chief secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna had on Friday hinted that lockdown could be imposed again if the situation remained same. Lamenting that many people do not wear masks despite Covid-19 situation becoming grim, the chief secretary said that police have been asked to enforce the Rs 1000 fine from all those found without masks.
