April 27, 2021: Assam government on Monday (April 26) ordered to close all the educational institutions including hostels of Kamrup Metro district in Guwahati for 15 days. The decision has been taken to check the spread of COVID 19 cases in the district.



The closure of all educational institutions is effective from today, April 27, 2021.



Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma taking to Twitter said, “With cases in Kamrup Metro exceeding 1000, I’ve advised DC to shut down all educational instns including hostels for 15 days for now. All other districts, where the numbers reach a threshold that require such measures, shall follow suit”.





Earlier, Assam government had ordered the closure of schools for Classes 6 to 8 students in districts where the number of active COVID-19 cases has crossed the 100 mark. The Education Minister said districts excluding Chirang, Biswanath, Baska, Majuli, Dima Hasao, Charaideo, Hailakandi, South Salmara, and West Karbi Anglong have already crossed the 100 marks.



The state government is yet to take decision on Assam Board Exam 2021. The decision is pending and soon expected to be announced. However, students have started urging the government to either postpone or cancel the examination.



The district administration of Guwahati has been given the authority to take a call on the closure of schools, colleges and educational institutions. As per the latest updates from the State Education Minister, all educational institutions of Kamrup Metro district in Guwahati will remain closed for 15 days starting from today.
