January 28, 2021: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal attended a programme organised to commemorate the completion of 50 years of Anuradha Cineplex and the premiere show of ‘Midnight Song’ the first Assamese movie to have been released after the COVID 19 pandemic on Wednesday.



Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal said that established in the year 1971 under the leadership of Phani Sharma, the fact that Anuradha Cineplex completed its 50 years of long journey is a matter of encouragement and enthusiasm for the cultural life of the state. Besides paying his rich tributes to Radha Govinda Baruah and others who took active role in the establishment of this cinema hall, Sonowal also congratulated the proprietor Chinmay Sharma and his family members on the occasion. He at the same time expressed confidence that other cinema halls in the state would sustain their contribution to enrich the Assamese film industry as it was done by Anuradha Cineplex.



Sonowal on the occasion said that in the last 4.5 years the present State government took several steps to motivate the artistes of the state. He also said that even in the coming days, his government would continue its unrelenting journey to enrich cultural landscape of the state through several other proactive interventions. He observed that in the wake of COVID 19 pandemic, though exhibitions in the cinema halls were stopped, with the subsequent government interventions, the film industry in the state will resume its journey.



While enjoy viewing some portions of the premiere show of the movie ‘Midnight Song’, Sonowal while expressing his feelings said that after COVID 19 pandemic, Assamese Film Industry has made a good start. While hailing the actors and actresses of the movie, Sonowal appreciated the producer Aparajit Bhuyan and director Arunjyoti Bora of the film. He also hoped that the release of the film will inject a new vibrance into the Assam Film industry.
