February 20, 2021: The Assam Government, in a bid to woo the tea tribe voters have increased the daily wages of tea garden workers.



A meeting of the cabinet chaired by chief minister Sarbananda Soniwl decided to raise the daily wages by Rs. 50. This will take the wage to Rs. 217 from the present Rs. 167. The workers are demanding the wage to be hiked to Rs. 351.

The other decisions taken by the cabinet include creation of Bodoland Administrative Staff College, creation of a new Department for Welfare of Bodoland, rules to be made for service conditions of eligibility for Chairman, member secretary and members of Assam Pollution Control Board, regularisation of services of 580 H.S. teachers w.e.f. the date of joining in 2001, amendment of Assam Municipal Board Act to provide for 18 months (in place of 12 months) for conducting elections- proposed for promulgation of an ordinance, allotment of 239 bigha of land to Srimanta Sankaradeva University at Hatichung, Nagaon subject to de-reservation procedure of VGR, allotment of 1 katha land to Deepak Sangha at Guwahati, service condition of 101 vocational teachers in 57 schools to give pay in time scale. (Rs. 28,748/PM), amendment of Guwahati Master Plan 2025 in three places viz. North Guwahati, Uzan Bazar, Bharalumukh, allotment of land to World Renewal Spiritual Trust, Kamrup, purchase of 8000 wheel chairs for the purpose of forthcoming general elections and other uses thereafter and in principle approval of regularisation of ASDMA employees with regard to contractual employees who rendered at least 10 years of service in the P&RD department.
