August 28, 2020: A cabinet meeting chaired by Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday gave its nod to several proposals.



The meeting passed the Assam Skill University Bill. The University will be set up in 100 bigha land in Mangaldoi, costing around Rs. 900 crore. The Age limit for entry in State Govt Grade III and IV posts has been increased from 38 to 40 years.





As part of the government's commitment to preserve the iconic heritage buildings and articles which are not covered under earlier laws, the cabinet has passed the Assam Heritage Protection and Preservation Bill. It also took a decision to take loan of Rs. 116 crore from NABARD to complete the construction of Dhansiri Irrigation Project.

The cabinet also gave its approval to the recently declared Orunodoi scheme, under which Rs. 830 per month will be provided to the poor families. Besides, Rs. 50 lakh insurance cover has also been extended to the journalists, home guards and casual employees who succumb to Covid19 on duty. In another major decision, the cabinet decided to exclude the areas under the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council and Tiwa Autonomous Council from the ambit of the Assam State Capital Region Authority.
