June 24, 2020: The death of a woman allegedly following a case of dowry demand has triggered sensation at Bhalabari, Kalaigaon in Udalguri district.
Manguli Sutradhar, the woman was taken to GMCH after she had fallen ill due to severe beating. However the doctors pronounced her dead upon her admission. Locals allege that she was frequently beaten by her husband Pabitra Sutradhar demanding dowry. He married Manguli Sutradhar six years ago and the couple has two children.

It may be mentioned here that there was an allegation of extramarital affair against Pabitra Sutradhar and once the village woman had to call a meeting to settle the issue.
Since the incident Pabitra Sutradhar had very often beaten his wife, say the villagers. Meanwhile Kalaigaon police have arrested Pabitra Sutradhar and is now being interrogated for further details following an FIR filed by the family members of Manguli Sutradhar.
