November 21, 2020: Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi was put on ventilator support on Saturday and next 48 hours will very critical for his health.

Gogoi, who has been admitted in GMCH since early this month due to post-Covid complications, has also been suffering from multiple organ failure.

Health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma rushed to the GMCH in the evening and reviewed his health condition with the team of doctors looking after him.

Dr. Sharma told reporters that the former CM had to be put on ventilator as the Non-Invasive Ventilator was not working. He has slipped into coma due to the deterioration of his health. "All efforts to revive his vital parameters are taken and next 48-72 hours are very critical for his health," said Dr. Sharma.

The team of doctors examining the veteran politician is in constant touch with the experts from AAIMS and are treating him according to their advice. Dr. Sharma also said that Gogoi's family has been regularly updated about his health condition and all decisions are taken with their consent.

86-year-old Gogoi, who had served as chief minister for 15 years, had tested Covid-19 positive on August 26 and had to be treated at GMCH for two months for post-Covid complications. However, barely a few days after his discharge, he had to be re-admitted as his condition worsened. His son and MP Gaurav Gogoi, who was in London, had cut short his visit and rushed to Guwahati to look after his father.
